an mp3 music preview from the film

Work on the film continues at an intense pace, with fixes, mixes, etc proceeding along. Jeremy Bleich came by and overdubbed bass for some of the existing pieces, and also helped with some abstract percussion parts while Jefferson was away in Maine. I also took some time out from under the headphones to work with director/video editor Luke Fitch, who made a synch of the ongoing music roughs to the footage I have for the submission to the Santa Fe Film Festival.

One of the biggest tasks has been creating the Kathakali-inspired Dance Piece that they needed full music for prior to shooting, as the sequence was to be specifically staged and choreographed. They wanted something different, with drum loops and samples, something heavy and full and wild. I listened to some Kathakali recordings on the net for a general feel, mostly manifested in this piece in the ritualistic/theater approach to the percussion and also a particular 7/8 meter that I heard on more than one separate Kathakali recording. Other than that, its very much its own animal.

Over a month in the making, off and on, Ive been sending them mp3s of it in various stages so they can rehearse and film to. The links below represent the final assembled complete performance, though I may fine tune the mix as far as levels, stereo imaging, and EQ.

For those used to our more meditative approach, hang onto your seats - this is a heavy metal drum n bass ritual theaterpiece with fretlees electric guitar and sarod exchanging passages on top. Enjoy!
