Santa Fe Gandhiri
Don McAvinchey brings some Gandhiri (a not-quite-translatable term implying Gandhi-ness, spirit or essence of Gandhi, of things or ideas Gandhi, Gandhi-esque) to Santa Fe tomorrow, 7 pm, at the Unitarian Church, as part of this weekend's peace conference.
I'll be playing some minimal interlude sarod for this event. Having met with Don prior to agreeing to this, he'll be offering something very special...

selling some things
In the wake of the impending move, its time to clean house!
i have up for grabs:
one JBL EON 15P-1 powered speaker, used three times if that, excellent condition, 400.00.
Peavey Delta Blues amp, also used maybe twice, great vintage tones! This Peavey model is known for its slight background noise but there are some tube holders Ive seen on ebay for this model for about 20 bucks that should take care of this - and the tones are sooo worth it!
Haluk Eraydin oud, custom made to my specs, with pickup builtin which sounds great.... it had one small split about 1 inch long in one of the back ribs, expertly repaired and stable for years. This maker is rapidly gaining popularity and equivalent models of his are running about 2000.00 now, this is a steal at 1000.00.
i need some different things and i also dont want to move a lot of this stuff, so get in touch...

Big news: moving to 'Burque
Today was my last day at the "day job" at the Santa Fe New Mexican..
Professionally, I have found another opportunity that is an all-around improvement for my state of mind, my family, and the music, since it will entail a relocation to Albuquerque, where Jefferson is. As I settle in over the course of the summer, Jefferson and I will be able to develop the music with greater frequency, and we're offically opening the floor to look at regular (and irregular) playing opportunities for the Duke City - so if you're in 'Burque contact us!!!
Santa Fe has been great, and i will truly miss all of our musical supporters , colleagues, and friends. there is a twinge of sadness to leave, but the energizing potential of what lies ahead professionally and musically is invigorating - and we can easily get back here from time to time and share the results.
We'll try to arrange a good slew of Santa Fe area "quasi-farewell" performances for the summer, if I'm not too overwhelmed (relocating a family is no easy task, and I'll welcome some support ), and at the same time, we look forward to meeting new people to share the music with in Albuquerque...

Sridhar-ji (in brief)
We had an enriching, deepening time shared with sarodiyya K Sridhar last weekend.
The short version of the story is that Jefferson accompanied him for last week's concert at Body, and in preparation Sridhar coached the two of us. Part practice, part lesson, part transmission, something very profound happened with his presence as our music was all of a sudden very different on Tuesday at Annapurna...he imparted a great gift to us, and we will do our utmost to persevere and honor that.
We also had the great pleasure to be aided and abetted by his road manager Diane, and his santa Fe based relation Pravin, a man with a cheerful soul, sharp mind and a sparkling, calm aura.
Sridhar is the real deal. He is both a deep musician and a deep, well versed yogi, (as well as great humor) and the combination is pretty overwhelming. I physically felt better after having absorbed what he offers, I kid you not, and some folks who heard him the previous week in Taos also reported some aliment relief.
Not apart from that is the aesthetic richness of his music itself. Combining a dhrupad sense of melodicism with a strong use of Carnatic rhythmic elements, a Sridhar performance is a rare and distinctive offering, full of heart and healing. Sridhar's evening at Body was luminous, and Jefferson arose beautifully from the immersion to embrace the daunting challenge of accompanying him.
Sridhar-ji was quite taken with the area, it seems, and plans are to bring him back in the fall. Stay tuned.

Purvi Shah, Lisa Gill, Dino and the Duo
It was a fabulous gig. Purvi came from NY and was a joy to work with. Her poems showed a multi-layered wisdom full of heart, and a great sense of wit revealed during the day's practice fit in immediately with the rest of the group vibe.
The performance felt very strong, evryone in sync and attuned to the collective whole. i havent heard the recording yet but im looking forward to it, and with everyone 's permission, I'll post samples.
A fun turn was an instrumental segment where Jefferson moved to kit with myself on fretless, joined up with Dino. Sama' Power Trio, to be sure. We might have to explore this formation a bit more....
We extend our thanks to Lisa, Tom, Chad on sound, Purvi, Dino for making it a great evening!
